What Dojo Tiger doesn't do yet
The honest list of limitations, and which of them are deliberate decisions rather than missing work.
One page, honestly, of what the product does not do — so you find out here rather than by hitting a wall on a Tuesday evening with a parent waiting.
Some of these are deliberate design decisions and will not change. Some are genuinely missing and will get built. The list says which is which, because the difference matters when you are deciding whether to work around something or wait for it.
Money
A family cannot see or manage their own monthly plan. They see the setup prompt before they have a card, and the charges in their payment history afterwards — but there is no "you are billed monthly for Kids Karate, next charge 3 September" card, and no self-service cancel or pause. Every change goes through the studio. That is defensible as a policy, but it means your front desk answers "when am I next charged?" by looking it up. Genuinely missing on the family side; the staff-side billing cell does show the renewal date.
A rate change never reaches a running subscription on its own, and there is no bulk sync. A studio putting prices up across the board has to open each affected enrollment and press Sync individually. Deliberate for the per-enrollment behaviour; the missing bulk action is a real gap.
Pausing billing is not a button. A subscription pauses when you set the enrollment to Suspended, and resumes when you set it back to Active. Nothing on the billing cell says so. Deliberate, but under-signposted.
Square is a mode you can select and cannot use. The picker offers it; every path downstream treats it as not connected. Stripe is the only working processor.
There is nowhere to record a payment taken outside the app. Cash, cheque and bank transfer are invisible: they never appear in the payments ledger or in the revenue chart. An Independent studio gets the tuition report and nothing else. If you need a record of who has paid in cash, you need it somewhere other than here.
The payments ledger loads at most 200 charges. It tells you when it has truncated. Filter by date rather than scrolling.
No invoicing, no statements, no payment plans, no partial payments, no discounts stacking, no tax handling, no payouts view. For fees, payouts and settlement, use your Stripe dashboard — Dojo Tiger never sees them.
Roster and classes
You cannot cancel a single class. Snow day, public holiday, instructor sickness — the schedule is a weekly recurrence, and there is no per-session cancel. The workaround today is to tell families another way and leave the attendance sheet unmarked.
A student who registered through the public form cannot be given their first belt rank. The Student Ranks tab lists students who already hold a rank, and the Promote button lives on those rows — so somebody with no rank in a program has nowhere to be promoted from. Students you type in by hand can be given a starting rank as you create them. Build your rank ladders before you migrate your roster. A real gap.
There is no demotion and no undo on a belt promotion. Promotions are a permanent history.
A student cannot drop in on a class outside their program. The attendance sheet will not find them, by design. Enroll them or book a trial.
Families cannot book, reserve or cancel a place in a class. The family schedule is read-only. There are no waitlists, no class capacities enforced at booking time, and no makeup credits.
Gear lists are an internal note and nothing more. They are not shown on your registration form, not on your public website, not visible to families, and not attached to programs anywhere in the interface. Nothing is priced or sold. Built, then never wired up to a reader.
Registration questions cannot be reordered. They appear in the order you created them, so add them in the order you want them asked.
Roles are fixed: owner, admin and instructor. There is no per-permission customisation, and no read-only role. Anyone who is an admin can charge cards, start monthly billing and issue refunds. That is a hiring decision, not a settings one.
One studio is one location. Two premises means two studios, two slugs, two rosters and a studio switcher — not one studio with two sites.
Communication
Nothing the app produces notifies anybody in real time. No push notifications, no SMS, no in-app alerts. Specifically:
- Publishing an announcement sends no email. Families see it next time they open the app.
- A website enquiry arriving in Leads sends no email. Somebody has to look.
- A new registration sends no email to the studio.
The only outbound emails the app sends are: the registration confirmation, the trial no-show note, the staff invite, the "add a card" prompt, the failed-payment alert to the studio, and the nightly inactivity alert.
There is no way to email your families from the app. No composer, no mailing-list export, no segment-and-send. Announcements are a noticeboard, not a broadcast channel.
Only one email is editable. The registration confirmation has a template screen; every other email uses fixed copy. There is no resend button and no delivery indicator for any of them.
Announcement text has no tables and no image upload. Headings, bold, lists, links and quotes work.
A video's title, description and program access cannot be edited after upload. The only fix for a mis-scoped video is delete and re-upload. There is also no way to play a video from the library screen itself. A real gap.
Your public website
Public events do not appear on it. The event form's Public event (visible on website) checkbox is stored and then read by nothing — the published site renders your programs and schedule, and no events at all. A real gap, and a checkbox whose label currently overpromises.
No custom domain. Your site lives at /{your-slug} on Dojo Tiger.
No social preview image, so sharing the link does not produce a card with your photo on it.
No analytics. No visitor counts, and nowhere to paste a tracking code.
One page, four templates. No extra pages, no blog, no editable layout, no custom CSS. Gallery photos cannot be reordered or given descriptions.
Prices, instructors, announcements and videos are never published. Anything a prospect should see about your pricing has to be written into your own copy.
Reports
No date ranges. Every report uses a fixed window — twelve months, or thirty days, or right now. There is no way to ask for last quarter.
No financial reporting beyond the three on the financials screen. No year-to-date, no profit, no cost tracking, no tax. Dojo Tiger records what you charged, not what you earned.
Exports are per-report only. There is no export of the student list, the enrollment table, the attendance register or the payments ledger, and no scheduled or emailed report.
Two reports have no download button at all: Outstanding & Failed Payments, and Student Retention.
Accounts and data
Staff cannot reset another person's password. Resets go through the sign-in screen to the address on the account.
There is no bulk import for anything except students. No importing attendance history, rank history or payment history from a previous system.
There is no account deletion or data export for a family, and no archive: a deleted student is deleted.
What to do about all this
If one of these is blocking you, say so — the list above is short precisely because the previous version of it was longer, and the things that came off it came off because a studio owner said which ones actually hurt.
