What a family sees when they register
The three-step public sign-up flow, walked end to end. The article to forward to a prospect.
This is the article to send a prospect who asks "what do I have to do to sign up?" — a walkthrough of the public registration form exactly as a family experiences it. It is also worth reading yourself before you print your QR code, because it is the only part of Dojo Tiger your customers will ever judge you on.
The whole thing is three screens and takes a couple of minutes on a phone.
Step 1 — the form
The page opens with the studio's name and the heading Registration Form.
Student Information
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| First Name, Last Name | Required. |
| Date of Birth | Required, and it changes the rest of the form. Enter it and a line appears underneath: "Under 18 — Guardian information will be required", or "18 or older — Email is required". |
| Required for an adult student. Optional for a child, because the guardian's email is the one that matters. | |
| Phone | Optional. |
| Address | Optional — line 1, line 2, city, state, ZIP. |
| How did you hear about us? | Optional free text. Friend, Instagram, drove past. |
| I'd like to try a class first | A tick box. See below. |
| Which program are you interested in? | A dropdown of the studio's active programs, each with its age range. |
If the email typed is one Dojo Tiger already knows, a small panel appears:
- Account Found — "Sign in to save time and link this registration to your account." Signing in prefills everything and links the new student to the existing family. Continue as guest works too.
- Previous Registration Found — "This email was already used in a previous registration. If you are registering a different person, you can continue." This is the normal case for a second child, and Continue is the right answer.
Primary Guardian
Shown only when the date of birth makes the student a minor. Full name, email, phone and address, plus an optional Second Guardian (optional) card for the other parent.
Additional Questions
Whatever the studio has added — medical notes, experience, anything else. Required ones are marked with an asterisk.
Signed-in parents get a shorter form
A parent who is already signed in and is adding another child sees a compact version: their own details are already known and shown as a summary line, so the form only asks for the student's name, date of birth, program, the trial tick box and the studio's extra questions.
Step 2 — waivers
If the studio has waivers, they are presented one at a time, with a badge counting Waiver 1 of 2 at the top.
Each shows the full text in a scrollable box, a Type Your Legal Name to Sign field, and two buttons:
- I Agree & Sign — types the name, records the signature against that exact version of the document, and moves on.
- Decline — asks "Are you sure? You can still proceed without signing this waiver" and needs a second press. A declined waiver is recorded as declined, and registration still completes.
A studio with no waivers skips this step entirely.
Step 3 — you're all set
A confirmation screen with a tick, the student's name, the chosen program and a summary of the waivers signed or declined. A confirmation email goes out at the same time.
The button at the bottom depends on the situation:
| Situation | Button |
|---|---|
| No Dojo Tiger account yet | Create Your Dojo Tiger Account — the signup form opens with the name and email already filled in. |
| An account exists with that email, not signed in | Sign in to link this registration |
| Signed in, not yet linked | Link to my account |
| Already linked | Go to Dashboard |
Creating an account is optional but worth it
A family can stop at the confirmation screen and never make an account — registration is complete either way, and the studio has everything it needs.
An account is what gives the family their own view: the class schedule, their child's belt rank and check-in code, announcements, the video library, event RSVPs, and — if the studio takes payments through Dojo Tiger — a saved card and payment history.
"I'd like to try a class first"
Ticking the box changes the wording of the program question to "Which program would you like to try?" and adds the line: "Sign up for a free trial class — no payment or membership required. The studio will contact you to schedule it."
That is exactly what happens. Nothing is booked automatically. The submission arrives at the studio as a trial, and somebody schedules a class and gets in touch.
What registering does and does not do
It does:
- create the student record, with the date of birth, contact details and address;
- create a guardian record for a minor;
- record every waiver signature or decline, against the version signed;
- put the registration into the studio's worklist;
- send a confirmation email.
It does not:
- enroll the student in a class, put them on any roster or on any attendance sheet — a member of staff does that deliberately;
- take any payment, or ask for a card;
- create a login.
For staff: what to tell a family
- "Scan the code and fill it in — it takes two minutes."
- "Yes, do sign the waivers on your phone; you don't need to print anything."
- "Make the account at the end — that's how you see the schedule and your child's progress."
- "You're not signed up for a class yet. We'll get you into the right one."
